What the greatest influences of Classical Chinese philosophy on the modern culture

Chinese philosophy is the philosophy that written several thousand years ago in the Chinese tradition of thought. Are their philosophies relevant at the modern era ?

  1. good philosophies are timeless. Those must be good, they've been around for 2 or 3 thousand years!
  2. Taoism is a blend of philosophy and religion. I would say Taoism is definitely relevant. Legalism is still relevant - this is the philosophy of law. Everyone owes obedience to the law, which comes from the Emperor (or dictator). Westerners have used it for centuries without the slightest idea they were living out a Chinese philosophy. The Book of Changes has several interesting features. It not only speaks of balance in nature, but of deference to the Superior Man. This is not necessarily someone higher than you in status; rather the Superior Man is wise and is in control of his thoughts and emotions. The problem with the Book of Changes (aka The I Ching) is that the metaphors are densely Chinese, and you practically have to study Chinese mythology to make any sense out of it.
