3. In the West presently, I think it is fair to say religion has little influence. The big influences today are media and government. These two forces have mandated religious pluralism. Once we accept pluralism any real religious identity becomes meaningless. If all religions are essentially the same; then why would any one care about differentiation. In this environment religion is superficial.
