Does your religion modify its traditional beliefs in accordance with modern ideas or cultural influences? ..and do you approve or disapprove of it? Culture and religion are not mutually exclusive, and I believe they are dependent upon one another. If there is no such thing as a pure culture, then, in my opinion, culture and religion are constantly changing largely due to changes in the institutional and geographic circumstances. What determines whether revisionism or religious innovation is positive or negative in your opinion?

Who has had a greater influence on modern American culture? Is it Thomas Jefferson or Karl Marx. I think it is Marx. The American cultural-political elites and Universities have gone head over head over heals for cultural Marxism. It seems to me America is no longer America. We've traded the greatest civilization in history for an ideology that has a uninterrupted record of mass murder and dismal failure where ever on earth it has been experimented with. What do you think?

How did education change in history from being family based? Many years ago education used to be the responsibility of the family -- parents, grandparents, etc. etc. In 1746 a man, Jean Jacques Rousseau, abandoned his new-born baby on the steps of an orphanage. He did the same thing in the coming years with four more children. They could have all died in the cold! This man, Rousseau, became a famous "education" philosopher that influenced modern day public schools. The snow-ball effect of abandoning children to the care of others has diminished the role of the family in many areas. God bless home-schoolers for trying to bring back to the family a nuturing and caring relationship through education and life choices! http://kevinswanson.com/Articles/ReversingRousseau/Index.html It's all in the world-view of the thinker... Bible history pre-dates Plato, Socrates, and it also defines the Greeks, the Athenians, etc. Mose, Abraham, Solomon and hundreds before, in-between and after. My world view starts with the evidence of creation by God. The very first school in known history would be the home-education of Adam's family.

Thanks, and no hard feelings to whoever doesn't get the ten points...
Do you think Nietzsche's philosophy has influenced modern society, and if so, how? The outstanding features of Nietzsche's philosophy are his doctrine of eternal recurrence and the extreme emphasis placed by him upon the will to power--a projection of Schopenhauer's will to live. Nietzsche believed the purpose of existence to be the production of a type of all-powerful individual, designated by him the superman. This superman was the product of careful culturing, for if not separated forcibly from the mass and consecrated to the production of power, the individual would sink back to the level of the deadly mediocre. Love, Nietzsche said, should be sacrificed to the production of the superman and those only should marry who are best fitted to produce this outstanding type. Nietzsche also believed in the rule of the aristocracy, both blood and breeding being essential to the establishment of this superior type. Nietzsche's doctrine did not liberate the masses; it rather placed over them supermen for whom their inferior brothers and sisters should be perfectly reconciled to die. Ethically and politically, the superman was a law unto himself. To those who understand the true meaning of power to be virtue, self-control, and truth, the ideality behind Nietzsche's theory is apparent. To the superficial, however, it is a philosophy heartless and calculating, concerned solely with the survival of the fittest. I've just begun reading Manly P Hall, interesting book...
Do you know the origin of the Cross? Has the early Catholic Church influenced modern Christianity? Surprising as it may sound, the cross was in use as a religious symbol for thousands of years before Jesus Christ ever walked the earth. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia: The sign of the cross, represented in its simplest form by a crossing of two lines at right angles, greatly antedates, in both East and the West, the introduction of Christianity. It goes back to a very remote period of human civilization (1908 edition, volume 4, p. 517). An Illustrated Encyclopedia of Traditional Symbols authored by J.C. Cooper confirms the ancient origins of the cross. A universal symbol from the most remote times; it is the cosmic symbol par excellence. It is a world center and therefore a point of communication between heaven and earth and a cosmic axis, thus sharing the symbolism of the cosmic tree, mountain, pillar, ladder etc (p. 45). Later, the Celtic cross came to symbolize the four roads to the corners of the earth. Unger's Bible Dictionary confirms the usage of the cross in ancient times as a pagan symbol. The authors write: That the cross was widely known in pre-Christian times as an emblem that was a well-known Heathen Sign. The vestments of the priest of Horus the Egyptian god of light are marked by a cross. At Thebes, in the tombs of the kings, royal cows are represented plowing, a calf playing in front. Each animal has a cross marked in several places on it. Rassam found buildings at Nineveh marked with the Maltese cross. Osiris, as well as Jupiter Ammon, had for a monogram a cross. The form of the cross now used in Christianity actually had its origin in the letter “T.” This was the traditional symbol for Tammuz, the ancient god of the Chaldeans and Egyptians. Tammuz was the brother of Ishtar, the goddess of fertility who is now unwittingly worshiped by millions of professing Christians on the holiday that bears a form of her name—Easter. The symbol for Tammuz is what the mystery religions call the mystic “T.” It is an emblem of great antiquity, and it is sometimes called “the sign of life.” The lower case “t”, or cross, was originally used as an amulet over the heart. Sometimes it was inscribed on the garments of pagan priests, and other ancient pagan religions used it as part of the dress of vestal virgins. This Pagan symbol ... the Tau, the sign of the cross, the indisputable sign of Tammuz, the false Messiah ... the mystic Tau of the Chaldeans (Babylonians) and Egyptians—the true original form of the letter T—the initial of the name of Tammus ... (was) the Babylonian emblem of Tammuz. Buddhists believe that the cross represents both the tree of life and spiritual nourishment. The Hindus also incorporate the symbol of the cross in their faith. They call the cross the “rajas,” the expansion of being. The linguistic evidence from the Bible suggests that Jesus was crucified not on a cross, but on an upright stake, or post. The original word that the King James translators rendered as “cross” is the Greek word “stauros.” Found 28 times in the New Testament, the word “cross” in every single case is the Greek word “stauros.” In Strong's Dictionary of the Greek language, the word is defined as “an upright post or stake.” Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words: [Stauros] denotes an upright pole or stake. Both the noun and the verb stauroo, to fasten to a stake or pole, are originally to be distinguished from the ecclesiastical form of a two-beamed cross. The shape of the latter had its origin in ancient Chaldea (Babylon), and was used as the symbol of the god Tammuz (being in the shape of the mystic Tau, the initial of his name). Has the "Universal Church" or Catholic Church duped Christians subtley?

Help Editing paper?? Please? “Las Navidades” The festival of Christmas is largely anticipated by the Hispanic community. The traditional Spanish Christmas today, follows back to ancient beliefs and customs. Christmas is a time of celebrating the birth of Jesus and renewing family ties. In preparation, families clean their houses and buy gifts for friends and family members. Traditional food is served during the weeks celebration. Tamales, ajiacos and asados are just some of the more popular foods served. One major custom that’s followed largely is las posadas, which is the recreating of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem in search of shelter. This celebration is a nine night series of enacting Mary and Joseph’s journey. Starting on December 16 and ending on December 24. The first eight nights of Mary and Joseph’s journey they are denied housing and are left in the frigid cold. The last night they are accepted into a caring home where baby Jesus is born. Jesus’ birth signifies Christmas day on the 25th of December. Schools and churches participate in this tradition world wide. In reenacting this journey, typically each family in the neighborhood will schedule a night for the Posada to take place. Every home in the neighborhood has an important scene. The house hosting the Posada will act as the innkeepers of Mary and Josephs journey. Children and adults travel house too house requesting shelter, each house will deny their request until they reach the last house where they will be invited in and all guests kneel and pray at the Rosary. Bullfights, Piñata breaking ceremonies, parades and rodeos enhance the celebration. Christmas itself is usually celebrated on Christmas Eve with a midnight mass and late dinner. Modern influences incorporated Santa Clause and the Christmas tree along with the traditional crèche. The Celebration ends on January 6th representing when the Three Wise Men presented the Christ Child with incense, gold and myrrh. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- any tips or suggestions appreciated
Are ladies against feminism? This site: http://www.ladiesagainstfeminism.com/ makes it sound like ladies are against feminism and for femininity and that women are for feminism and against femininity. They have articles like: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1226464/The-First-Ladette-How-Germaine-Greers-legacy-entire-generation-loose-knickered-lady-louts.html http://womenofvirtue-abigail.blogspot.com/2010/02/modern-influences-for-young-women-of.html some of it makes a lot of sense especially the bits about being feminine and modest and embracing the roles in society and that men and women are different with different spheres of influence.

Who are Sakamoto Ryuuichi's classical influences/similar artists? I have very little exposure to classical or piano-centric music but for the most part I find alot of the most popular old stuff to too dramatic in a very cheesy way. Alot of it is obviously brilliant but I can't really get into any of it so far. Chopin gets me a little more than most of the big names of centuries ago but not fully. I don't know ANY new piano-centric music except for Ryuuichi Sakamoto and I absolutely love at least 40 songs by him. Can anyone tell me his classical influences or modern musicians who have a similar well written bitter-sweet mood to their music. I'm refering to songs like: Rain Energy Flow The Last Emporer I also like alot of his more pop-influenced music but I know plenty of good pop music so please introduce me to some classical. I'd also be happy to hear of other musicians who mix classical music with electronic and pop music the way he does.

Shakespeare and Modern Day? Heres the assignment. --Create at least TEN sentences that demonstrate the connection of Shakespeare to the modern world. Shakespeare influenced every generation of writers since his death and still today has some level of impact on contemporary plays, movies, and poems. So this is indeed a very large topic. And yes, he invented many of the most used expressions in our language. I was going to do how Lion king was similar to one of his plays, and also with the movie She's the Man. Could you think of any other ideas, or perhaps get me started on the paragraph? Thanks
In what ways do myths impact or influence the modern American culture? Mythology is a collection of sacred stories, typically revolving around the activities of gods and heroes, which purport to explain natural phenomena and cultural practices.(About.com) But, there is much more to mythology than we can imagine. Mythology is all around us. it has almost as much influence and impact on modern civilization as it did in the culture in which it was created. We must view mythology with two questions in mind. First, why were selected myths created? And second, in what ways do myths impact or influence the modern American culture? Our project will be to examine these two questions. We will research the first question by looking at mythology as a whole, the different mythologies by cultures, and by researching specific myths for their origins and meanings. We will then research the modern culture of the United States of America to find the many different ways myths impact and influence it. This will include the study of science, language, literature, trade names, social sciences, industry, our cultural beliefs, companies and groups, planets and constellations, literary and pop culture, cities, film and cinema, and any other area we think can be included. You will then identify the one mythology that has the greatest impact and/or influence on our own culture and give examples from as many fields or areas as possible. You will present your findings in a power point, supplemented by other creative visual aids.

Modern medicine and evolution? Has evolution in humans stopped or slowed due to our ability to treat those who are not fit enough to survivie. Sounds a little harsh i know. But all of human evolution has been based on traits and mutations that are advantagous to humans being passed on to the next generation, i.e the better hunter is more likely to reproduce than a weaker one, survival of the fittest. But what do we need to survive now? What skills are most important to us and are they being favoured by evolution? Is wealth the most important thing to the human race. A person with money (I dont mean loaded but can afford to survive) can provide a house, food and healthcare for himself and his offspring) Whereas a homeless person is less likely to have offspring. Is this even evolution, Its definetly got a social aspect. But then in third world countries there is still large population growth. Humans still manage to survive and thrive in famine starved countries. Could this eventually lead to the classification of two new species, will poor people and wealthy people eventuall be unable to mate?? I digress, i could rant on but any comments regarding the evolution process, the influence of modern medice and the current human condition would be welcome!
The red dot on Indian Women? I read an article that said "If a lovely young girl gets too many compliments, Indians feel that some kind of harm may come to her, so this dot repels evil influences. Modern young misses match the dots on their foreheads with the colour of their saris today. This is not traditional but only a fashionable act." Is this true? Where can I find some pictures and examples? What kind of woman would be considered beautiful enough to wear this (would they have to be married or single)? What other reasons? Please post any related info. Thanks.
what is wrong with this summary? sounds kinda weird help plz? The last lines are weird I don’t know how to put it? “On Photography” by Susan Sontag is a description of photography and how people practice it. It argues how photography is practiced everyday as a normal daily activity rather than a form of art. Most people only take pictures to have a chronological record of events of their families, like when the kids are small or when they have special ceremonies such as graduation, or to list the members of the family. Photography has influenced modern society such as tourism since many people consider traveling without a camera improper. People wouldn’t feel as if they went on vacation if they didn’t have evidence of the places that they visited to remember them. In addition, Sontag explains that a person with a camera is transformed into an obsessive and active observer because he is the one mastering and controlling the situation in the photograph. The photographer would be able to capture someone smiling sad or upset which will give details to the event occurring on the photograph. It doesn’t matter how the pictures looks; it would always have a message or something worth seeing because it makes people remember certain feelings or events. Even if an event has passed, the photograph will live forever, keeping it alive. Sontag also uses examples of art such as the films called Man with a Movie Camera (1929) and Hitchcock’s Rear Window (1954) because these illustrate and express the pain, feelings and movement depicted in them. Finally she explains that in order for someone to take a picture that person has to be interested and involved with the subject that they’re going to focus without changing its matter so that way the person would be able to make the photo more worthy and interesting

Why do some Christians try to twist God's inerrant Word to suit their modern liberal, secular lifestyles? According to God, in His best seller The Bible, it's OK to sell your daughter into sex slavery - see Exodus 21:7-8: "When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her." Yet when I approach my Christian neighbors with a $20 and express my interest, they actually seem to take offense. I know that it can't be because they doubt God's Word, which is 100% literally true. I even reassure them that if she fails to please me, I won't sell her to the Mexicans, but will deliver her back in decent condition, minus normal wear and tear. Still, nothing doing. I assume that this is because of the influence of modern, liberal, secular society, which, as we all know, is the great evil of our times. What's the best way to bring them back to God's Word? Their daughters aren't getting any younger. I knew I'd hear that this was the OT, and we're in NT times now - but that's just false dogma. Jesus "came not to destroy the law, but to fulfill it. For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." (Matthew 5:1.) Not one jot or one tittle. I don't see how he could've been more categorical. So back to your daughters. I know this is just "Why Can't I Own Canadians" redux; but I've never heard a decent Scriptural answer to that either.
