Ice Breaker Activities Knowledge Base
Ice breaker activities for small community college class? I am about to begin teaching a college course at the community college level. I am looking for some fun ice breaker activities to do with the students. It is very likely that a lot of the students will be non-traditional. If possible, I would like for the students to learn a little about each other. This course is given to first semester students, so very few will know each other before this semester. Thank you very much!
What are some good ice-breaker activities for a staff residential/meeting? We've got a staff residential this weekend and I'm supposed to prepare an interesting ice-breaker activity to start it off. The staff all know each other by name and professionally, but I think its about getting to know everyone better. There's a very broad age range, from 18 all the way up to 55 or something. Someone has already suggested 'human bingo', although I've no idea what that is, or even how to play the normal bingo!

Does anyone know any good environmental ice breaker activities for college-aged Environmental Studies Majors? Looking to get two groups of environmental studies majors acquainted and comfortable prior to an environmental studies retreat including debate, round-table discussion, and student/faculty presentations. We want everyone to feel comfortable with each other to get the most out of the retreat and where all opinions can be expressed without fear of becoming an outsider. Ice-breakers will be key I think, but I'd like at least some to be environmentally-based.
Ice breaker activities? Does anyone know any good ice breaker activities to do with adults with mild- moderate disabilities. Thanks in advance.
Ice Breaker Activities? I teach first and second grade in an interdistrict magnet school. We have a step up day at the end of the year and I was wondering if anyone had any good icebreaker activities to use with them?
Please share team building activities/ice breakers for conference calls? Please share with me a team building activity or an ice breaker that can be done on a conference call with about 15 people. We have about an hour to hour and a half to do this. The team isn't a group of strangers, we know each other, but can always learn more about one another. Thank you!
Does anyone know of good and fun ice breakers and trust activities for 16-17 year-olds? I'm taking a group of about 12 high school juniors on a religious retreat. At one point we have an anointing service where some of the kids will speak about their lives, struggles, etc. The ice breakers and trust activities earlier in the retreat are meant to help build confidence among the group's members and help them get to know each other better.
Ice breaker activity? First off, I will acknowledge that this question has little to do with higher education, except that it is for a club on a university campus. Only reason I put this question here is it is a high traffic forum. I've been chosen to be responsible in creating an activity that would be safe, fun, and act as an ice breaker for several dozens of students for a Christian club on campus. It can be indoors or outdoors, and any activity that requires little to no expense would be preferred. Why they chose me...I don't now because I absolutely suck at these things, which is why I need your help! Thanks in advance.
Favourite ice breaker games? I need an ice breaker activity for my leadership class, and I've checked many websites but none have really caught my eye except for a few. So I was just wondering if anyone knew of any, or had some favourites in mind. Your help is appreciated :)
What are some good ideas for ice breakers or activities at a business meeting? My department is having a global meeting in June, and there will be about 150 people from US, Asia and Europe attending. I'm helping to plan it and am looking for some ideas for ice breakers (since we don't know the folks from different countries well and we have some new hires). Last meeting we all had a sheet of paper and markers and were asked to draw what represents our idea of a perfect vacation, our hobbies etc, and one or two people from each table shared with the group. We also had an Elvis impersonator for fun, but we found out that didn't go over too well with the last VP. ha ha Our VP also wants to have a cookout by the hotel pool (she was hoping to be able to do that on the beach, but we can't) with games and stuff to do while hanging out. The meeting will be taking place at the hotel that everyone will be staying in, so there's no travel time or people having to leave or anything like that. Any ideas?

Whats a good ice-breaker question for an online training class? I'm teaching a very techy training class tomorrow, and I want to break up this all this thinking-stuff with an ice-breaker question or two. Nothing simple like "What's your favorite film?" and obviously nothing inappropriate since this is at work. Any suggestions? Looking for something original, fun and not overly time-consuming, that the class can think about and give a quick answer to. Also, this is a remote class, so it has to be a text-only ice-break question of some sort (so no group activity, etc) (And if by some fluke you are in my class tomorrow, then it's a really small world...)
Any good icebreakers suggestion for working one on one with a young student? I begin tutoring on Monday with a young student (2nd or 3rd grade) and need a really good get to know you/ice breaker activities. Actually, multiple, if you have them! I'm just having difficulty finding activities that will work one-on-one, most online are for large groups of students. If you have any suggestions, they are greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Help me with my Ice Breaker project please? I'm a senior in CIT and here is the project: create and ice breaker. The problem is, very few of your staff actually know each other, even though they work together every day. you need to create an ice breaker to begin your first meeting of the year. WHAT YOU NEED TO INCLUDE IN YOUR ACTIVITY: Your objective(what u want to include in your activity) Your Plan(what is the name of your activity and what are the instructions for doing the activity) Your material(what materials and how much ill you need to prepare so that ur staff can complete the activity) Your evaluation(how will u evaluate the effectiveness of the activity? what will u look for to see if the activity is successful or not) GUIDELINES:activities should not make staff uncomfortable avoid an activity which requires staff to give out very personal info. an activity should not have too much physical contact please

Christmas party/mixer games and activities for grown-ups? We are in our 20's-30's and are hosting a big xmas party where we want to have people participate in group types of activities. We're looking for Ice breakers, drinking games, group games/activities and anything that can be played pretty easily. We don't necessarily want all dirty or suggestive games, but no one wants games for kids either. We are open minded as long as it involves groups, doesn't require a lot of prep work and people will actually want to participate. Thanks!
What are good group exercises that would encourage participation and productivity? As the newly elected president of my fraternity's chapter, I will be hosting a summer retreat to plan the upcoming events and projects we would be having during the school year. However, I also want to incorporate group ice breakers and activities that will motivate my fraternity brothers to be active, put in work and overall be great assets to the organization. So my question is, what activities and projects can I do that will motivate my brothers and send a message that all this is vital for a successful organization? Your advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks
What are some good party themes/games/activities for friends in college? I am trying to put together this big epic party at my house. I have a pool so I am hopping the the weather will be good that day. Not everyone there will know each other, so some good "ice breaker" ideas would be appreciated. I also want to have some kind of theme to go with this party and at least one game or thing we can do that has to do with that theme. There will be alcohol at this party and no one is single (thankfully) ***five stars best answer***
Good Ice breaker for teens? What are some fun interactive ice breakers (games) for a group of teens? Maybe something that requires running or activity. Thanks!
Ideas on how to choose contestants? Tonight I am MC'ing the ice-breaker activity at my youth group. The game requires me to choose 3 contestants. Instead of just picking them from the crowd do you have any ideas on fun ways to choose contestants? i.e. quick competitions? games? Thanks in advance!
Icebreaker activities for high school kids? Hey guys, I'm a junior in high school and in a program where we are assigned a group of 6 freshman that we help transition into high school, raise awareness about college and just be there for as someone to talk to and ask questions. Well the freshman I'm assigned to are superrr shy and barely participate or say anything the whole hour. We're supposed to come up with ice breaker activites to do at the beginning of each session, but the ones they give us are so lame. Does anyone have any ideas of fun "icebreakers"?
activities for incoming freshmen? i'm a female sophomore in college. i'll be living with a hall of 20 freshmen this fall, and it's my job to welcome and mentor them. i'll be doing this alongside my male counterpart (a good friend of mine). my responsibilities include the usual "in loco parentis" stuff and academic guidance. i also have to create fun activities and icebreakers for them to get to know each other and the school/surrounding area. my friend and i have already come up with a couple of ideas (picnic on campus, water balloon fight, making hall decorations), but i was wondering if anyone else had any input. whether it's a great ice-breaker game, a fun activity you do with your large group of friends, or a fun communal experience you had as a freshman, i wanna hear it!
I NEED leadership games/activities for Leadership Camp!? I'm an activity leader at an upcoming Leadership camp for school, and I need some ice-breakers and games to play with the campers, to make them work together, get to know each other, open up, etc. To be specific, I'm a leader for the Drama section, so these activities can be (may be, should be ) drama-related. Any ideas??? Are there any games/activities you've played in similar situations, that you found effective? Please share your ideas. Thanks in advance!
16th birthday: Black out party HELP!? im having a 16th birthday party with my friend and theres probably going to be around 65-75 people, and we have a hall and everything, but i need some ice breaker activities to do. Like, we're going to call names out of a bowl or something for who gets to do them, but i'm not sure what to do. Our theme is blackout because we're changing all the lights to black lights, so it'll be dark in there, but everyones wearing white, so they'll glow. It's 4 hours long, and i need to think of something to do besides dancing. ALSO, we have a punch fountain, chocolate fondue, cupcakes, and chips and bean dip. What else do we need? HELP!! And what are some good ideas to go with the black light theme? or decorations we should use?
Anybody know of any good group Icebreakers? I am on the board for a campus organization and was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for ice breaker activity that would take 20 minutes or so. We would have groups of 8 or so competing against each other, with the winners winning prize of some sort. Open to suggestions as long as they don't involve building with food.
Desparate for book title ideas - Group Games & Activities? Hi folks, I've just finished writing my latest book, based on large group activities that build self-esteem and team skills. It's full of 100s of ice-breakers, co-operative games, and group problem-solving activities. I need a catchy 2 or 3 word title. The sub title will likely be soemthing "Large Group Activities That Work". Any ideas, open to all... cheers, Mark
Which "Camp Rock" song is the most popular I'm trying to create an ice breaker activity for my students, but I don't actually know enough about their music to do it. I need some teeny-bopper help! Could you also give me the most popular Cheetah Girls song and any other stuff like that? I've got High School Musical, Miley Cyrus, and Jonas Brothers already. Thanks! LOL Touch Me. It was painful for me to categorize it this way, but let's face it, that's where it'd be at Best Buy, right? Just an FYI- All the teeny bopper music is considered pop, so I'm very much in the right section. AND, I wouldn't subject my kids to this trite crap. I play GOOD music in my class, but as an ICEBREAKER activity, I need stuff the know. Otherwise they'll all be standing around saying, "I don't know who Otis Redding IS." But thanks.
Does guy in my morning class like me? there in my morning class and im not sure if hes interested or not. since the first day of classes hes sat next too me. normally i wouldn't think anything but the class changes room every day and no matter were ive sat, hes been right there next to me. what confuses me is that he doesn't really say anything. the only time we've ever talked was the first day of class when we joked around during an ice breaker activity. ive caught him kind of smiling a few times and doing the whole look then look away thing. but he hasn't really said anything to me. does he like me and how do i tell?
what do you do the first week of teaching new classes? ice breakers? ideas?? how fast do you get into the curriculum? i have new classes coming up, and i was wondering what you all do to get to know them. what activities work for you? i'm an english teacher, so anything that would fit into both categories would be great. i usually just do a name-based ice breaker and some other intro ideas. i have 90 minutes class periods, so i have quite a bit of time at my disposal. thanks in advance!
I am planning a corporate event for my company's clients,? It is a mix and mingle and a cooking demonstration. I want to add in other fun, small activities and maybe an ice breaker, but am drawing a blank. I dont have much time to work with, and I know people kinda dread thses things. How can I make the event fun and light, but still promote my company?
any good first day ice breakers for music class? I'm an elementary school music teacher and i'm looking for some activities to help the students and I get to know each other the first day. I've got a couple of games like "who stole the cookie jar" , but I'm trying to find some other things that are simple. It doesn't necessarily have to be a music activity either.
What is an activity or website I can share with Kindergarten-5th grade students to encourage military support? I want to do a fun activity with my elementary students centered around supporting our troops. The students will be composing letters, poems, or drawings (depending on age level) to be sent to military personnel serving overseas. I need an "ice breaker"; something to get them thinking in the right direction so they will be more productive and also be thinking in the right mindset. I am planning to do this next week so that the letters can arrive to the military by Armed Forces Day.
First day of school lesson ideas? I teach high school, science in particular. The first day of school is coming up and I'm looking for something interesting to do. I've done ice-breaker/name game activities before, but I'd like to hear if there are any other ideas. I would like to get ideas about teamwork building activities (maybe teams race to complete a puzzle or something). I would ESPECIALLY love some activity about the importance of following directions (I like the "test" where the first direction is to read all the directions first and the last is that you don't need to follow any directions, but many of the kids will have seen that before). Maybe something about following directions for making a project, and if they don't read carefully, the project comes out totally wrong in a funny way? (I may have seen something like this before, like if you fold wrong and then cut the whole thing falls apart, something like that.) Sorry for the tough question; I'd just love any ideas! Thanks a bunch. :)
Sensing activities? I am starting an anger support group for middle school children and am looking for ideas for activities that can help the children learn to label their feelings so that they can better undersatnd what they are feeling. Let me know if you guys have any ideas (something like ice breakers).
Outdoor party ideas for single adults? I'm planning an outdoor party for my single friends, who are mostly in their 40's & 50's, and I'd like some suggestions on fun activities. They don't all know each other, so I'd like some sort of ice-breakers. We'll have food and music, and the temperature will probably be in the eighties. Alcohol won't be served, although if someone brings their own, it will be o.k.
I need relationship advice? Hey whats up OK me and guy met and we've only known one another for 4 days how do I start conversations with him he is actually the first guy I ever been with how do I know if he likes me? what are some good ice breakers or activities we can do to get comfy around one another PLEASE hlp me
Need activities/games for BBQ!? My church's singles ministry is having a cookout on Saturday. I'm suppose to come up with games/activities to keep us entertained. I've been swamped at work and haven't had time to look anything up (besides ice breakers). Keep in mind it's a CHURCH BBQ..so no beer pong games ;-) Also, everyone is in their 20's, early 30's. Any and all suggestions are welcome!
I cannot speak up in a group of leaders? I'm in a really intense high school course called "Odyssey". There are two teachers and 50 kids. Today we got into groups for a huge project that will largely impact our grade... the groups are about 10 kids each. Well, we did an 'ice breaker' discussion activity and one of the kids in my group was the 'observer' who took notes. This boy was asked to read aloud his notes, and it so happens he judged every kid in my group individually. He said good things about everyone except me, who, he announced "didn't seem to talk at all and... well... didn't do much of anything..." -long pause for the entire class to sneak in a "oooh!". All of the other observers sugar coated everything so I felt humiliated. I'm so embarressed, and clearly not off on the right foot with my group. The thing is I am SO shy around dominating people, and thats a majority of my group. They talk over each other and are very loud and confident, while I'm the complete opposite. I don't want them to hate me or give me bad evaluations, but its so hard for me to overcome my shyness and I even DO force myself to talk sometimes, it just seems like no one listens. What can I do?? I really dont think the 'observer' kid was trying to be a jerk. He's really 'off' anyway
Any idea for Ice breakers? It needs to be activities where kids (ages 8-15) can learn each other's names !!! Please, nothing with writing stuff down or extra supplies.
Help With editing!!! 10 pts best answer!!!!!!!!? Any suggestions as far as editing, grammar or things I can also add to make it better....Thanks in advance! Today’s exercise enabled us to become acquainted with one another in a very informal setting . This is quite often known as an “Ice- Breaker”. This particular activity was a fun way to learn about our classmates backgrounds and personalities. In this exercise we were to find a classmate who fit a specific description on the list given and then they were to sign the sheet of paper. Such descriptions included things like “is an only child” “is left handed”. The main point of the exercise was to get every classmate signature by making your way around the room. At some point during the exercise, finding other classmates that matched a least one of your descriptions became difficult. Being that many people chose the same description , leaving other students to just pick left over descriptions. I really enjoyed getting to know my peers. It helped me to find students I had things in common with, therefore forming a few friendships with people in the classroom. Communication was key in today’s exercise even though the communication going on wasn’t that great in the sense of how much talking actually occurred. The Ice breaker was the first of many steps to feeling fully confident with other classmates. Easing in with smaller audiences you trust will make it easier to speak in front of a more intimidating group of your peers later. Although many icebreaker activities are focused on helping participants get to know one another, they can also reveal who the class leaders might be, what skills and special abilities students possess, and how well students might work together. These activities are fun ways to learn about participants' backgrounds and personalities. Apart from getting-to-know activities, however, these icebreakers can help your team create a culture of success.
