What Federal Government programs could most of us live without? Personally I would say that I could get by fine without my tax dollars funding the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and of course the IRS (fat chance). Where do you think we are throwing away too much money, time and resources as a nation?

How much did the FCC fine the networks involved in the Janet Jackson Super Bowl incident last year? We all remember Janet Jacksons famous "Nip Slip" incident last year at the Super Bowl. The FCC(Federal Communications Commission) has toughened its policies against TV and radio. How much did they fine the networks involved in that incident?
Why are the good commercials in Europe, and not in the US where we supposedly have freedom of speech? The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) drives me mad sometimes! (in many ways, this is just one) How about you? The commercials are much more funny and risque and actually make you not want to watch them rather than mute them or change the channel... which I would think the advertisers would like.
Are you tired of the Kardashians trying to make us think interracial marriages are okay? White people should marry white people and black people should marry black people. The bible clearly states that interracial marriages are not christian. I live in the South and this would never be tolerated in my town. I live in a God fearing town that loves Jesus and respects the christian principles that this country was founded on. I think the Federal Communications Commission should step in and censor this program to remove certain content so it doesn't promote non christian principles. Do you agree?
How does the FCC own radio wave spectrums? I've always wondered how the Federal Communications Commission could freely sell and distribute radio waves. How does an organization "own and operate the air?" I thought air was free. My only guess could be: 1) any given people who rule a piece of land have all rights to it, including air 2) nobody owns the oceans > and oceans connect pieces of land and continents > therefore nobody has control over them Are my assumptions even somewhat correct? Please enlighten me.
How is is legal for the FCC to regulate television and radio? I'm stepping on the toes of (and will be paraphrasing) George Carlin when I ask this, but I've yet to recieve an actual answer. How is it that "the FCC, an unappointed body, not elected, decided all on it's own that television and radio were the only two parts of American life not governed by the free speech provision of the first amendment to the Constitution?" I just don't understand what made the regulation of public television and radio legal. The first amendment says "Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech." So, how is it that the Federal Communications Commission can regulate what people say or do on public television and radio? I ask purely in the interest of intellectual enlightenment on my own part, and not to try to start an argument. I really would like to know. ~Premetheus

Can we not all agree that rules and regulations issued by Federal agencies have the force of law? Let us take for instance the Security and exchange commission rules and regulations, you trade commodities and if you break these rules and regulations you are subject to fine and /or imprisonment. The Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations are the same, you break these rules and regulation, such as use inappropriate language or show breast or what have you on the public airwaves are subject to fine and / or imprisonment. The police are not above the law. Under FCC rules and regulations. The Police departments need to start following the law and identifying their repeater. 75 % of them do not. Listen if you do not believe me. If the police expect citizens to obey the law then they should obey it to. "§ 90.425 Station identification. Stations licensed under this part shall transmit identification in accordance with the following provisions: (a) Identification procedure. Except as provided for in paragraphs (d) and (e) of this section, each station or system shall be identified by the transmission of the assigned call sign during each transmission or exchange of transmissions, or once each 15 minutes (30 minutes in the Public Safety Pool) during periods of continuous operation. The call sign shall be transmitted by voice in the English language or by International Morse Code in accordance with paragraph (b) of this section. If the station is employing either analog or digital voice scrambling, or non-voice emission, transmission of the required identification shall be in the unscrambled mode using A3E, F3E or G3E emission, or International Morse, with all encoding disabled. If your local department is not in COMPLIANCE, then I urge you to contact the FCC and file a complaint. The police want you to obey the law, but apparently they think they are above it. I will post the email address of the commission should you wish to file a complaint. The Feds are about the only people the cops listen to anyway, well the Feds and anything with the title SPECIAL PROSECUTER after it.
**~ Does Anyone Know How To Solve This Stats Problem?~**? You work for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and you are planning an auction of portions of the microwave spectrum. Telecommunications companies will submit bids. The number of companies that have filed the paperwork to bid is 5. The company that submits the largest bid will win the auction. Suppose that, for one particular item (one particular interval of the spectrum), bids are uniformly distributed between $0 and $2 billion. a.What is the probability that the winning bid will exceed $1.8 billion? b.What is the expected value of the winning bid?
What does FCC stand for (in a hospital Labor & Delivery department)? No, I'm not talking about the Federal Communications Commission. I keep seeing 'FCC Mom' and 'FCC Baby' in some documents I'm working on, and I've come up empty trying to find out what it stands for.
How do I become a FCC Agent? What kind of qualifications and experience would be necessary to get a Job at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)?
What do you make of this in San Francisco? On August 11, 2009, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, in a unanimous vote, became the first elected body in the United States to stand up to Hate Radio. Has the head of the FCC gone totally insane? Mark Lloyd, newly appointed Chief Diversity Officer of the Federal Communications Commission, has called for making private broadcasting companies pay licensing fees equal to their total operating costs to allow public broadcasting outlets to spend the same on their operations as the private companies do. Lloyd presented the idea in his 2006 book, Prologue to a Farce: Communications and Democracy in America, published by the University of Illinois Press. Lloyd’s hope is to dramatically upgrade and revamp the Corporation for Public Broadcasting through new funding drawn from private broadcasters.
Should a single company be able to own both a newspaper and a television station in the same market? http://apnews.myway.com/article/20061003/D8KH16IO1.html WASHINGTON (AP) - The Federal Communications Commission kicks off the first of six planned public hearings Tuesday to discuss a number of broadcast ownership rules, including whether a single company should be able to own both a newspaper and a television station in the same market. Clear Channel Communications Inc. (CCU), the nation's largest radio broadcaster with about 1,200 stations, is lobbying the FCC to increase the radio ownership limits in the largest markets, like Los Angeles. The ownership rules exist because the broadcast airwaves are owned by the public and the law requires that the public interest be considered in how they are regulated. Too much control over the broadcast media in a market is deemed not in the public interest, though limits have been loosened over the years.

Congress used the elastic clause provision of the United States Constitution when it..... Pls Help? Congress used the elastic clause provision of the United States Constitution when it 1. declared war against Germany in World War I 2. created the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) 3. passed the Hawley-Smoot Tariff of 1930 4. approved the President's nomination of Ruth Bader-Ginsberg to the Supreme Court
The Fairness Doctrine - Is the Plan To Regulate Free Speech by The Democrats Constitutional? Democrats in Congress are pushing for legislation that they say would bring more balance to the media, but critics say would muzzle conservative voices. The Fairness Doctrine, a federal regulation requiring broadcasters to present both sides of a controversial issue, was enforced by the Federal Communications Commission from 1949 to 1987, when it was dropped during the Reagan administration. The FCC discarded the rule because, contrary to its purpose, it failed to encourage the discussion of more controversial issues. There were also concerns that it was in violation of First Amendment free speech principles. The legislation now before Congress would enshrine the fairness doctrine into law. Many conservatives have long argued that the bulk of major newspapers, news magazines and network news programs tilt left and regard talk radio as an antidote. To be continued.... "Liberals used to dominate the media, and they are irritated there are competing voices, so now they want to reign in the conservative media using the federal government," Clifford Kincaid, of Accuracy in the Media, a media watchdog group said. "There is no prohibition against liberal talk radio. Liberals tried talk radio and it was not successful in the market place." The result of the fairness doctrine in many cases would be to stifle the growth of disseminating views and, in effect, make free speech less free. This is exactly what led the FCC to repeal the rule in 1987. FCC officials found that the doctrine "had the net effect of reducing, rather than enhancing, the discussion of controversial issues of public importance," and therefore was in violation of constitutional principles. Is this what we want? Is this the philosophy of which the Liberals and Democrats endorsed with their votes this past November?
What's the Constitutional provision for the FCC? I've been checking and checking, but couldn't find the mandate for the Federal Communications Commission in the Constitution. [scratching my head...] I dunno... Maybe I'm not looking in the right place. It's gotta be in there! After all, without the FCC, there'd be no need for censorship of indecent (non-family-oriented) broadcasting. There'd be no regulation of bands and frequencies to prevent crowding, overlap, etc. Help! Where in the Constitution is the FCC mentioned???!
Can someone help me with this statistics problem? Please? What is the probability that the winning bid will exceed $1.8 billion? b. What is the expected value of the winning bid?

Summarize the historical events that caused American presidents to gradually shift the country's foreign policy from isolationism to internationalism. 2. How have freedom of speech and freedom of the press been affected by the Federal Communication Commission's removal of the fairness doctrine for broadcast media? can someone please help or explain? i have no idea what these answers are. i looked it up and found nothing.
Are law enforcement officials scumbags for abusing the 2005 Federal Communication Commissions 2005 Mandate? This mandate was enacted in 2005 basically saying all cell phones must have GPS tracking capabilities to track a caller in an emergency situation, such as a 9-1-1 call. Some how along the road the police interpreted this mandate into thinking that can track criminals where abouts, most of the time without a warrant. This is becoming such a popular trend among law enforcement officials, cell phone companies are complaining as the tremendous amount of inquires they're getting, asking this service. Sprint specifically sites over 8 million inquiries after the 2005 mandate, keep in mind there's lots of other cell phone companies getting abused as well. He's a recent article on sprints outlook on this abuse... http://sprintconnection.kansascity.com/?q=node/1347 Personally I think police are scumbags for abusing this mandate and invading individuals privacy without warrants is completely baseless. The fact that they made the mandate vague and only allow you to offer "reasonable suspicion" to completely breach someones privacy is wrong and as a law enforcement officer you should know this. How do you feel about this rant as a police officer or as a citizen? Personally I just want to say enjoy it while you can officers because within the next few years, even currently, this is becoming a hot button issue as more and more realize how their privacy is being invaded and violating your 4th amendment rights. There's 297 million cell phone users in the U.S. only GOD should have the power to be able to track their where abouts for any given reason at any given time. Scumbags... : ) Sure it's easy to cite instances where it was a big help and the intent of the mandate was carried out. What's not being cited is the instances where it's being used to capture criminals and has nothing to do with emmergency services at all.
What do you personally think of Rupert Murdoch? Check this out http://www.stopbigmedia.com:80/=whackamurdoch Rupert Murdoch spreads his political agenda into nearly every living room in America by buying up TV stations and other media across the country. Right now, the Federal Communications Commission is rushing through rule changes that would let moguls like Murdoch own even more newspapers and stations. Murdoch's media empire already includes the Fox Television, Fox News Channel, a maze of cable networks, radio stations, hundreds of newspapers around the world, and even Internet sites like MySpace. Recently, he gobbled up the Wall Street Journal and launched the Fox Business Network. The media are our prime source of news and information. When we let a few giant conglomerates control so many outlets, quality journalism turns into junk media, and our democracy suffers. smsmith500, How can you turn the channel when he owns most of the channels? Your point makes my point!!!!!!!!!
How do I know if it is necessary to get my electronic product to be FCC certified? FCC = Federal Communications Commission My product is a low power desk lamp.
Should FCC changes the rules regarding media "cross-ownership"? The Federal Communications Commission just had a hearing in Seattle last Friday on proposals to ease long-standing limits on how many local media outlets a single company can own. Should a single company own more than one media outlets and how it going to effect the future of mass media and why?
Doesn't the Fairness Doctrine eliminate free speech? "The policy of the United States Federal Communications Commission that became known as the "Fairness Doctrine" is an attempt to ensure that all coverage of controversial issues by a broadcast station be balanced and fair." If talk radio or any type of broadcasting is controlled and told it has to represent both sides of the issue or be considered "fair", doesn't that eliminate the freedom of speech? Shouldn't radio...whether liberal, conservative, christian, atheist, etc...be able to discuss whatever they want if it's listener supported? I like listening to what the other side has to say; biased or not. They can say whatever they like and discuss whatever they like. Why does it have to be "fair"?
How safe are the games our kids play (please read)? Dear parents: I am writing today to inform you that the creators of RuneScape, JaGEx Ltd, it's staff, moderators and player moderators, wholeheartedly support internet trolls (people whose only function on the internet is to irritate others and cause chaos), offensive language, cheating, unfriendly gameplay, bad behaviour and dishonesty. If you're as concerned about this as I am please send a letter to your local censorship board. JaGEx allows YOUR children to play a game where abusive behavior, dirty words and discouraging phrases are commonplace, and anyone attempting to change this is shunned and warned not to speak out. Does anyone know if Mexico is also going entirely digital, and if so, when? As many of us U. S. citizens know, the last day of our analog broadcasting (versus digital broadcasting) in the United States will be February 17, 2009 (per the Federal Communications Commission, a United Stated government agency.)
What do you think about large church groups grabbing the whole radio dial in ur area? you can do something right now that will have real impact in helping towns and cities across the USA get community radio - media that belongs to the people and gives the real story when mainstream media wont ... .. you can act now by simply speaking up ... the Federal Communications Commission is asking you how you feel about the difference between locally-based community radio and large conservative media groups like mega-churches with deep pockets that are trying to grab the entire radio dial. They are asking you to comment as an American citizen .. http://www.freepress.net/fcc/comment.php?dn=fullpowerradio HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING: This October, community groups will have a final chance to bring full-power local radio to their areas. The FCC will allow Americans to apply for licenses to build stations in the FM band's non-commercial section - Noncommercial Educational (NCE) licenses between 88 and 92 FM. This is an historic application window. This October is likely the very last chance for local community groups to obtain a full-power community radio license, because in most communities, only one radio frequency remains available. During October's media gold rush, we community folks could get shut out. During non-commercial licensing periods in the recent past, single large players (many of them are conservative religious radio networks) have engaged in speculative behavior or attempted to build nationwide networks by applying for frequencies in hundreds of communities. In response to this problem, and to create fairer conditions of competition this time, the FCC has proposed setting a maximum number of 10 licenses per applying group. This would help a local community group that is applying for a radio license have a better chance against a high-powered national broadcast outfit. But the large conservative media groups object., The FCC needs to have evidence of support for the limit. So they are giving you an opportunity to let them know that as an American citizen, you believe that local media, "the small guys" need a fair chance. Tell them you support the application limit.
Is this why Barack opted out of Public Campain Financing? "While his campaign has cited its volume of small donations as a rationale for his decision to opt out of public financing for the general election, Obama has worked to build a network of big-dollar supporters from the time he began contemplating a run for the U.S. Senate. He tapped into well-connected people in Chicago before the 2004 Senate race, and, once elected, set out across the country starting in 2005 to cultivate some of his party's most influential money collectors. He courted them with the savvy of a veteran politician, through phone calls, meals and one-on-one meetings; he wrote thank-you cards and remembered birthdays; he sent them autographed copies of his book and doted on their children. The fruit of his efforts has put Obama's major donors on a pace that almost rivals the $147 million that President George W. Bush's Pioneer and Ranger network raised in $1,000-and-larger contributions in 2004 during the primary season. Given his decision not to accept public financing, Obama is counting on his bundlers to help him raise $300 million for his campaign for the general election and another $180 million for the Democratic National Committee. An analysis of campaign finance records shows that about two-thirds of his bundlers are concentrated in four major industries: law, securities and investments, real estate and entertainment. Lawyers make up the largest group at about 130, with many working for firms that also have lobbying arms. At least 100 Obama bundlers are top executives or brokers from investment businesses - nearly two dozen work for financial titans like Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs and Citigroup. About 40 others come from the real-estate industry. The biggest fund-raisers include people like Julius Genachowski, a former senior official at the Federal Communications Commission and a technology executive who is new to big-time political fund-raising; Robert Wolf, president and chief operating officer of UBS Investment Bank; James Torrey, a New York hedge fund investor; and Charles Rivkin, an animation studio head in Los Angeles. "Big donors are the key to Obama's record haul" http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/08/05/america/bundlers.php Tribeca - I thought Obama didn't want to be beholden unto special interests? Just because he is purportedly not taking money from registered lobbyists doesn't mean when you have half of your contributions coming from 4 industries that there won't be expectations......
Will they get non loving obama talk radio off the air? Left-wing church leaders want the Federal Communications Commission to crack down on "hate speech" over cable TV and right-leaning talk-radio airwaves. BUT THEY ARE OK WITH SEX AND FOUL LANGUAGE ON REGULAR TV, LOL GO FIGURE
how does this thesis statement look? "Due to the difficulties in efficiently understanding what is considered obscene, it is imperative to understand the protection offered by the First Amendment, the history of nudity in the media, significant court cases and laws passed throughout history, the restrictions and enforcements imposed by the Federal Communications Commission, and the public's rejection on the matter. " i'm writing a paper on the regulation of media: censoring obscenity and nudity-- mainly on television. My statement looks rather long. Should i leave out of one those subtopics?

Why are Democrat law makers so against freedom? They really want to control people and their freedom of speech for some reason. Don't they have other, more important, issues to be concerned with right now? Congress: No annoying airplane cell phone calls WASHINGTON - Cell phone calls on airplanes in flight are not only unsafe, they're obnoxious and they should be permanently banned, according to some members of Congress. House members, most of whom board airplanes almost every week, traded horror stories Thursday about their worst experiences with annoying fellow passengers who talk loudly on cell phones before takeoff and after landing. One lawmaker said his wife sat next to a woman who loudly discussed her sex life on the phone. Another House member topped that with the passenger sitting him behind on one flight who got a "dear John" phone call from either his wife or sweetheart just before takeoff. The begging and pleading was just terrible to listen to, he said. Finally, with the plane ready to take off, a flight attendant had to threaten to have U.S. Marshals drag the man off the plane before he finally put his phone away. A third House member raised the specter of national security, saying she'd witnessed one man use his cell phone camera to take pictures of sensitive parts of the airplane. With that, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved by voice vote a bill that would make the current Federal Aviation Administration and Federal Communication Commission ban on cell phone use during flight permanent. The committee's action comes as the European Union is moving to allow airline passengers to talk on their cell phones during flight. Some U.S. airlines are experimenting with in-flight Internet access. And some lawmakers worry that domestic airlines might try to get the cell phone ban lifted so they can charge passengers extra to sit in no-phone sections. "I do believe this is important that we don't make what is already a crowded and difficult environment for the traveling public and flight attendants" worse by allowing cell phone use in-flight, said Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., sponsor of the Halting Airplane Noise to Give Us Peace (HANG UP) Act. But Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., said there are a lot of annoying things on airplanes, including children with dirty diapers and noisy MP3 players, but that doesn't mean they should be banned. "You are trying to legislate courtesy, folks, and that just doesn't work," Mica said.
Does anyone think that Hispanic television is more sexy than English-speaking programming? I'm doing some research on whether spanish-speaking programming is more sexy (and sometimes too sexy) than shows seen on NBC, for example. Is content seen on spanish-speaking television appropriate for children to watch by our accepted standards (as set by the federal communications commission?)
Who would want to follow this? "Jackson had been exposed…as an extortionist who uses his influence as a civil rights leader to essentially blackmail wealthy corporations with absurd discrimination threats. "While some of those tactics have been published in the past, this special report offers detailed information – never before released – gathered during the discovery process of Judicial Watch’s lawsuit and the subsequent trial. It also includes incriminating admissions from Jackson made under oath at trial." Among Jackson’s shakedown tactics highlighted in Judicial Watch’s report: * Jackson lobbied the Federal Communications Commission to prevent media companies seeking government approval to merge until they donate money to Jackson's Rainbow/Push. * Jackson publicly chastised Toyota for running an ad Jackson deemed “racist.” Even after Toyota pulled the ad, Jackson threatened a boycott against Toyota to force the company to launch a $7.8 billion “diversity program.” Wake up and smell the coffee!!!
President Bush signed a law increasing the max fine FCC? Bush signed a law increasing the maximum fine the Federal Communications Commissions can impose for indecency on radio and TV to between $32,500 to max $325,000. Did he do the right thing, esp in light of the "Janet Jackson incident" during Feb. 1 , 2004 Super Bowl half-time? why? Should the guidelines on indecency also include fines for cable TV & satellite radio programming and broadcasts that seem to incite hate racism or spread lies and misinformation? why?
What does FCC stand for? I do NOT mean the "Federal Communications Commission" FCC that has to do with TV and radio. My cousin is in the FCC Petersburg prison, and I wanna know what FCC stands for. By looking it up, I found, "The Petersburg Correctional Complex (FCC)". But that doesn't have the "F" there. By just the name it should be ""PCC". It's a federal prison, so MAYBE it's Federal Correctional Complex? It didn't keep me up all night, and it's not a very important matter that's life and death. I just wanted to know what it stood for. Maybe so I can learn something?!? FCC Petersburg's gonna be "in my life" in a sense for a very long time. so it makes sense to know what it stands for.
